Self-Portraits & All About Me Acrostics

This is a project that was inspired by the acrostic maker on ReadWriteThink.org.  Instead of doing the typical acrostic with each person doing their own name, I decided that we would all use "All About Me" down the side.  The great thing about the interactive is that is gives "hints" for words that start with each letter.  This makes it much easier for the students to quickly generate their words and phrases.  After the students had their acrostic ready to print, we used the "save as pdf" feature from the print screen.  (We have a Mac lab.)  

Next, the students went to South Park Studio and created their person.  Don't be alarmed, the students can NOT link to the South Park tv show site from this site.  Of course, you will want to do the cursory reminder that the character they create shouldn't include any weapons since their project will be displayed at school.  These self-portraits were saved by taking a screen shot (shift-apple-4).

Finally, we opened Word and simply dragged and dropped our self-portrait and our poem; resize to fit on one page; then print.  These have made for a great bulletin board!
